Public distribution system, PDS is an Indian food security system, Established by the Government of India are managed jointly by state governments in India for the supplies of ration to common people. This PDS scheme was launched in India around 1955. The Commodities distributed in this channale such as wheat, rice, sugar, cooking oil, dall and kerosene, through a network of fair price shops (also known as ration shops) established in several states across the country. The Supply to the ration shops is by FCI, Food Corporation of India, a Government-owned corporation, procures and maintains the PDS.
