People living in South 24 Parganas depend on multiple skills, total workers are 2,964,494 out of which men are 2,356,571 and women are 607,923. There is only one village road for commuting, though this area is located 2-3 Kms from the urbanized area. Truck / large car cannot ply through this road. There is no pipeline water supply. People are primarily dependent on agriculture and manual labour. It's a difficult situation for the people.

SILENT DISASTER AT SAGAR ISLAND : More severe than AILA, no storm, never seen before, flow of saline high tide water over the river bank, may be due to rising of Sea Level, severe damage of paddy fields ( salinity intrusion),houses ..................
Could we seek relief Fund from World Bank or any other sources? WE are concerned, as all of us are associated with GEF/UNDP/SGP on promoting salt tolerant paddy in Sundarban.

I am a resident of this village. Brought up else where, I am a teacher of chemistry; M.Sc. (Chem) ; B.Ed. I feel very sad to express that no developmental authority takes care of hygiene, sewage drainage and general public awareness program. People encroach lands with muscular power and spread their family like swarming insects living in tents. They dump their sewage in the same pond, take bath in the same pond and drink the same water also. There is no sense of quality living and society is just like uncivilized tribe. My objective of putting this info. here is to seek some help to improve living standards and environment in this area.
